Our Home Rekey and Lockout Service: What We Actually Do at Your Door
When a Cloisters technician arrives, the first thing they do is verify your right to access the property — a standard step that protects every New York homeowner and tenant. Once identity and ownership are confirmed, we assess what you are working with. A rekey means the existing lock body stays in place, but the internal pin tumbler configuration is changed so that old keys no longer operate it. This is the fastest and most cost-effective way to secure a new home, and it works on virtually every cylinder-based lock including deadbolts, door knob locks, and the mortise lock assemblies common throughout Manhattan, the Bronx, and Brooklyn pre-war buildings. A full lockout opening, by contrast, means gaining access to a locked interior using non-destructive techniques — checking for secondary entry points, using tension tools appropriate for the specific cylinder, or, where no other option exists, drilling as a last resort with immediate hardware replacement.
We carry replacement cylinders, mortise lock cartridges, and pin kits for the most common New York residential lock brands on every service vehicle, so most jobs are completed in a single visit. After every rekey we hand you a fresh set of tested keys on the spot. After every lockout we confirm the door is re-secured before we leave. We never consider the job done until you are safely inside and the lock is fully functional.
